KDay music fans in ultimate selfie

WITH “selfies” now part and parcel of the social media experience, about 20 000 concert-goers had a chance to be part of the Cape’s biggest selfie at this year’s KDay.

A photograph of fans and 17 of the country’s top musicians was captured following the KDay concert on Saturday hosted by Kfm and MTN. It was the fifth KDay – and the most successful, according to organisers.

A 16m-high stage at Sandringham farm in Stellenbosch hosted The Parlortones, Prime Circle, DJ Kent, Mi Casa, LCNVL, Danny K, Beatenberg, Lloyd Cele, Good Luck, Elvis Blue, Jimmy Nevis, Daniel Baron, Watershed, Mac Stanley, Blackbyrd, Die Heuwels Fantasties and Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels.

The addition of the “fancam” made the event an interactive experience for fans.

For the selfie, artists and Kfm presenters lined the stage with 20 000 fans behind them.

“The state-of-the-art panoramic high-resolution image enables people in the picture to be easily recognised”, organisers said.

Those in the picture can tag themselves after it is uploaded to the Kfm website on Monday.

Kfm manager Colleen Louw said the event was an opportunity for the station to showcase the country’s best musical talent.

“To be able to have them all on one stage in one day is exceptional. Our listeners come together and enjoy the day as a family.”
