GIG OF THE WEEK
Robin auld
Café Barcelona (Sunday)
Robin Auld is one of the country’s treasured musicians because he puts his heart and soul into his music and lyrics. He’s based in the UK, so it’s a special occasion to have him play on home soil.
He’s in Gauteng this week with a series of shows at Olives Bistro in Bedfordview, but he’s in Pretoria on Sunday with a show at Café Barcelona (Elardus Park Shopping Centre, cnr Delmas Rd and Barnard St, Elardus Park).
He has opened for and performed with Angelique |Kidjo, Lloyd Cole and Michelle Shocked.
Many South Africans know his hits Baby You Been Good, All of Woman and Love Kills. But his music has evolved from the pop influences of his earlier years into a contemporary blend of blues and roots sounds.
His latest offering is an eclectic mix of blues and roots songs featuring the slide guitar, harmonica, African blues guitar stylings and his soulful vocals.
There are also hints of reggae and goema.
Expect acoustic versions of his old hits with some newer material as well as interesting stories at his show at Café Barcelona on Sunday.
Cover charge is R80 and the show starts at 8.30pm. |– Kgomotso Moncho
