Please join us for the Wavescape Master Class - a talent development workshop and networking opportunity for adventure and extreme sports film makers and digital storytellers.

The Master Class forms part of the Wavescape Festival, which comprises (among other community and ocean-related events), a surf and adventure film festival, and the Wavescape Shortcuts Film Contest. The Master Class also forms part of a campaign to grow Cape Town, as a film locale, into “The Adventure Capital of the World”.

The Master Class provides an afternoon of presentations aimed to inspire adventure filmmakers, and to equip them with the tools for future projects. Entrance is free for any interested person who would like to see presentations by Wesgro Film and Media Promotion, Red Bull Media House, Wavescape Media, adventure film producers, camera technology specialists and others.

14:10 Monica Rorvik, Manager, Wesgro Film and Media Promotion

Monica speaks about how Wesgro plans to nurture film talent by helping producers become more export ready, and to help companies monetise their ongoing projects. Includes tips on how filmmakers can get noticed, and find funding via state and private sector organisations.

(20 minutes + 10 minutes questions)

14:40 Steve Pike, co-founder & director, Wavescape Film Festival

Steve covers the evolution of the surf film genre during 12 years of curating the Wavescape Surf Film Festival. He gives an insight into how Wavescape chooses films, and how festivals enable filmmakers by creating a public platform that motivates higher production values, and thus nurturing the talent pool.

15:40 Wayne de Lange (filmmaker), Di van Zyl (producer) & Angela Illing (Red Bull Media House)

So you want to make an extreme sport film? This trio share their formidable collective expertise with you in an interactive workshop focussed around content. What are the most important things to know? What makes for a good piece of content? How do you build engagement? Not to be missed.

16:30 Kyle Lord, POV camera guru

Kyle has worked on numerous extreme sport and adventure film projects for GoPro and others. He is an expert on POV camera techniques. He shares his learnings about maximizing opportunities presented by the latest in camera technology.

17:00 Chris Mason, Producer

Chris talks about pre-production planning, from permits to locations; some insights into which cameras to choose and why, and some learnings about how to make your film look and feel professional (editing, sound and score) in the post-production phase, with the aim of having a complete product at the end.
