Johannesburg - Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs recently became the first fashion label to showcase a collection at Africa’s busiest airport, OR Tambo International.

The theme was honouring the 20th anniversary of democracy in South Africa, and the spring/summer collection was aptly named Freedom20.

The show was hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni and Airports Company SA, and held at the international viewing deck against the backdrop of the recently unveiled Oliver Reginald Tambo Memorial Exhibition. The range was punctuated by traditional seshweshwe cloth and digital prints inspired by the South African flag.

“This had been a truly humbling experience, being able to honour the progress my country has made in only two decades through my label,” designer Jacobs said after the show.

Unathi Batyashe-Fillis, spokesperson for the airport, added: “OR Tambo International Airport is immensely proud to be associated with an event of this calibre.

“Our Oliver Reginald Tambo Memorial Exhibition served as the perfect venue as it honours Oliver Tambo, one of the stalwarts whose sacrifices led to South Africa being able to celebrate these 20 years of freedom.”

Freedom20 saw French luxury cosmetic house Lancôme provide the distinctive make-up looks for the collection.

Nail brand essie added its whimsical range of colours to the models’ nails.
