Johannesburg - Constitution Hill in Johannesburg is set to come alive with the hosting of a brand new monthly lifestyle and culture market, it was announced.

Market @ The Fort which will have a contemporary African theme, isn't based on the conventional concept of selling goods to customers.

Instead it will be interactive in nature where visitors will be able to participate in activities and get to experience products on offer first hand.

Adding to this lively space, traders will have a chance to mingle with their clients, introducing them to the goods and services on offer.

Examples include food and wine tasting, make-up lessons, fashion styling booths and live cooking shows to name just a few.

With its roots firmly entrenched in South African history, the name Market @ The Fort, originates from The Old Fort prison section which was built in 1892 at the top of the hill overlooking the old mining town of Johannesburg.

More than a century later, this iconic venue will provide the setting for what will certainly become a set fixture on the calendar marking a fusion of food, fashion and music at the city's core.

The first one will take place on Saturday, December 5 at Constitution Square, Constitution Hill, starting at 10am.

Constitution Hill is a subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency.

It is a national heritage site and home to the Constitutional Court of South Africa. Situated in the Johannesburg CBD, the venue includes the notorious prison complex known as Number 4 where South Africa's leading political activists like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were detained.
