Durban - You’ll find the duBoirs Boutique Lodge, Wedding and Conference Venue 35km outside Durban in Waterfall. Although it’s close to the bustle of the city, it still manages to be a sanctuary for those who want a romantic getaway, and is popular with business travellers. It is also a stone’s throw from Inanda Dam and the Valley of a Thousand Hills.

The lodge perches on the side of a quiet valley, surrounded by trees, with manicured gardens. Care has been taken to ensure the buildings are in harmony with surrounding flora and although contemporary in design, they blend in well with their surroundings. The soothing sounds of a nearby waterfall add ambience to the secluded valley, cocooning guests in an elegant and sophisticated backdrop, with the sweet scent of lavender blossoms wafting through the air.

The accommodation comprises tasteful and luxurious rooms, each individually decorated and fully equipped with modern facilities and full en-suite bathrooms.

Decor is eclectic. Some rooms have an African theme. Others are more contemporary chic. There is also a honeymoon/executive suite set in the gardens. All rooms have satellite television, individual air-conditioning and heating, electronic safes, hairdryers and tea and coffee facilities.

The duBoirs is popular for weddings and conferences. The venue can cater for weddings of 200 or more guests. They have extensive experience putting together wedding packages and many bridal couples tie the knot under the gazebo overlooking the dam or against the backdrop of the cascading waterfall with guests enjoying drinks on the terrace overlooking beautiful landscaped gardens. The exceptional conference venue accommodates up to 300 delegates, and corporate clients can enjoy a great wine cellar and cigar lounge. There is also an intimate, classy home theatre for screening sport or films and for presentations to small groups.

Any event or occasion would not be complete without good food, and the chef and his professional team deliver meals that tantalise and delight. The lodge caters for all tastes and requirements, be it halaal meals, gourmet cuisine, comfort food, Christmas roasts or Italian delights.

Fresh organic produce from the herb and vegetable garden ensures quality and freshness of ingredients. High Tea at duBoirs is highly recommended and in demand for special occasions.

These include finger snacks, cream-filled croissants and oven-hot scones with home-made strawberry jam, premium teas and herbal infusions.

For Sunday picnics, there are plenty of spots, with blankets and cushions set up in the gardens. You can sit on the verdant lawns next to the river or waterfall or under the trees.

In your picnic basket expect to find home-made panini with a paté of your choice, cheese platter, lemon and herb chicken kebabs served with a salad of your choice, seasonal fruit salad, red velvet cupcakes, a rose and a bottle of sparkling wine or house wine.

Team-building, yoga classes and family days are all part of four-star bouquet. It’s ideal for weddings, work sessions, functions or a romantic break. - Sunday Tribune
