Durban - Acclaimed Hollywood actor Blair Underwood returned home to the US this week and has posted glowing reports on Twitter of his visit to Durban.
“Just got back from vacation in Durban, South Africa. Thank you again to Kwazulu-Natal Film Commission, Carol, Keshnee and Patrice for being such gracious hosts! S. Africa is one of my favorite places to visit. The highlight is always the people first, then the wildlife. While driving through the Natal Lion Park, three male lions decided to chase our silver vehicle! Daaaaamn. Weren’t they supposed to be sleepin’ under the tree!!!”, was his first comment on touching down in the US.
During his visit to the city Underwood announced his role as a producer and narrator in the documentary film Township Yogi, which is being produced by KwaZulu-Natal-based film production company Green Shoot Films and made a special visit to a township yoga class at Bambayi in Inanda last Friday, to the surprise and delight of township yoga students.
He also visited the Mandela capture sight near Howick and had this to say on Twitter:
“This is an amazing sculpture @ Mandela’s capture site in Kwazulu-Natal. There are 50 large steel columns. The sculpture significantly acknowledging the 50th anniversary of Mandela’s capture. These can be seen from the road looking like a forest of steel poles.
He also added: “We visited a local school, township and HIV/Aids clinic that is doing some heavy lifting and major work in helping the residents of this community stay healthy. Hats off and God bless you for the extraordinary work that you do.”
The yoga classes are the initiative of the Township Yogi Project, which aims to change the lives of those suffering in townships as a result of HIV and Aids, TB, poverty, crime, violence and drug abuse, through the power of yoga.
Underwood is well known for his roles in television series such as LA Law and The Event, and in films such as Gattaca, Deep Impact and Rules of Engagement.
