Bowesdorp was the original Kamieskroon. The area was founded by Dr Bowes but they soon had to relocate to where Kamieskroon is now in 1924  because the valley was too small for their city. The first thing they moved was the Church. The Northern Cape is marketed as an extreme destination: abseiling, 4x4 tours and river rafting, but it would be better described as a place of solitude.
