Cape Town hopes the bigger new night market, hosted in the Company’s Garden, will bring more residents from different parts of Cape Town into the CBD.

This year, the market is moving from Adderley Street to the garden.

It will also have different areas, including a beer garden, a “lifestyle tent”, a family zone and picnic spots.

The city appointed a new service provider for the market last week. It will see 200 stalls – up from around 180 last year – lining the Company’s Garden over 900m from Government Avenue to Orange Street.

The market starts on December 14 and runs until December 24. It will start operating at noon each day.

Belinda Walker, the mayoral committee member for economic, environment and spatial planning, said the market would be “very family friendly”.

It would lure more Capetonians into the city centre “to explore a different side” of the city.

She said local businesses would also have a platform to showcase their wares. - Cape Argus
