Cape Town -Spring has more than sprung at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. At this time of year, the gardens are bursting with colour and more than 7 000 species are in bloom – more than at any other time.
Radiant reds, purples, oranges, and yellows carpet the landscape, creating a sight worth capturing on camera.
Set under the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch displays the very best of South Africa’s natural beauty, with plants from across the country.
Renowned around the world, Kirstenbosch, which was established in 1913, was the first botanical garden devoted to the indigenous plants of its country.
Kirstenbosch displays thousands of specimens of Cape flora.
Right now, the Namaqualand daisies are in high season, offering an explosion of brilliant colour from purple to orange to white.
But get there fast because this spectacular floral display will soon be gone until next spring.
“I cannot describe it to you – the colours are just amazing,” said Andrew Jacobs, who has worked at Kirstenbosch for 37 years.
“Absolutely a must-see.”
Bring a blanket and a picnic, kick back and relax in the gardens.
