Cape Town - A multimillion-rand development overlooking Cape Town’s harbour and the V&A Waterfront is set to become the city’s hub for ocean-front fine dining and lifestyle.
The 2000m2 Shimmy Beach Club will include a private beach, an extravagant outside deck and can also be accessed by a helicopter or boat.
Modelled after glamorous entertainment venues around the world, it is mooted to become one of the city’s top up-market venues. The club is the brainchild of Cape Town businessman Shawn Mace and chef, Seelan Sundoo.
The project was turned into reality through additional funding sourced from consortiums in Angola and China. When the Cape Argus visited the construction site on Tuesday, the concrete building was already taking shape.
Builders were hard at work putting the finishing touches to the bar area, the walls and the roof.
Mace said it had taken three years to make the club a reality.
“We wanted to create a proper world-class destination in Cape Town. The city is now ready for a place like this,” he said.
The Shimmy Beach Club was expected to open early next month and international events were already booked for December 22 and 31.
“Besides providing a great venue for a night out, Shimmy will also create a number of job opportunities in the city’s hospitality industry with 120 staff to be employed,” said Mace.
The architectural style of the venue is clean lines with an open feel to take full advantage of the ocean view. The interior will be decorated using locally sourced natural materials such as stone, leather, stainless steel and glass.
An illuminated champagne bar and the main restaurant will open on to a glass rim-flow infinity swimming pool and beach loungers.
Edgy finishes include a front door reminiscent of the infamous Titanic and a “floating log” that appears to have fallen off a ship. Some of the light fixtures were created to resemble sea foam.
Commercial property management executive for the V&A Waterfront, Andre Blaine, said the Shimmy Beach Club was an exciting development.
“Its unique location affords it exclusivity while still falling within the cosmopolitan environs of the V&A Waterfront. We aim to continually distinguish our offering to visitors and Shimmy Beach Club will certainly align with this. We look forward to a long and mutually successful relationship,” he said. - Cape Argus
