Cape Town - Wine and art have long been amenable companions. The addition of a wine component to the second Hermanus FynArts festival is welcome, particularly in a region renowned for some of the Cape’s finest labels.
Tastings and talks will not only focus on the area, but extend to discussions on the industry, while brandy and port will also feature. Curator, wine and arts writer Melvyn Minnaar has included a brief history of the Walker Bay winelands and presentations on pinot noir and chardonnay, the area’s top cultivars, followed by chenin blanc and pinotage. Fundis like Beyers Truter, Christian Eedes, Bevan Newton Johnson and Danie de Wet are among the presenters while Carel Nel will deal with port and Winnie Bowman will present the brandy tasting. The Marine hotel is the festival’s venue.
Hermanus FynArts, which held its inaugural festival last year, is an eclectic mix of art fest and winter school, and it’s on from June 6 to 16.
