Cape Town - A romantic visit to Table Mountain on Tuesday turned out to be a celebration for Bafana Sibanyoni, 29, and his girlfriend, Mbani Ntazani, 26, when Sibanyoni became the 25 millionth visitor to the Table Mountain Cableway.

It is the Johannesburg couple’s first visit to Cape Town and Sibanyoni had no idea he would be the extraordinary visitor when he stood in line to buy his ticket.

The shocked Sibanyoni and Ntazani, who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday, were greeted by claps, cameras and balloons at the entrance of the cableway.

The couple also received a hamper of merchandise and food vouchers, a weekend stay at a five-star hotel and a number of vouchers.

Sibanyoni said he was speechless but completely overjoyed at their luck.

He said they didn’t plan to do a trip up the mountain and even got lost on their way there.

“It’s as if everything happened for a reason. Because it’s my girlfriend’s birthday, she is really the lucky one. We are staying until Friday and I can’t wait to see the rest of this city,” said Sibanyoni.

An overwhelmed Ntazani said this was the last thing she had expected for her birthday. Despite being afraid of heights, she said she had always wanted to go up Table Mountain.

“I have only ever seen the mountain on television and my cousin just told me to take as many pictures as I can,” said Ntazani.

Ironically, the couple argued earlier in the day because Sibanyoni forgot to buy a selfie stick for their Cape Town trip. But, with all the photos taken of the lucky couple for the momentous occasion, he was in Ntazani’s good books.
