Golden Orb Tours founded by Gareth Robbins, a qualified Field Guide and Tour Guide, is now offering unique guided nature walks and hikes on the Robberg Nature Reserve, Plettenberg Bay in order to present an educational aspect for locals and visitors to enjoy such as historical facts, unique topography, shipwrecks, wildlife, birding, conservation, flora and fauna in the area, which all highlight the uniqueness of Plettenberg Bay.

Various types of guided walks are custom made to suit the individual or group and visitors can hope to experience the flora which consists of dune and mountain fynbos, thicket and coastal grassland, a great variety of birdlife, resulting from different vegetation types and the surrounding ocean.

Therefore guests can look forward to spotting, white-breasted cormorants, Cape robin-chats, kelp gulls, swift terns, grassbirds, orange-breasted and lesser double-collared sunbirds, Karoo prinias, Cape rock thrush and in season it’s home to a breeding colony of the damara tern which is a red data species (threatened species), endangered African black oyster catcher, land mammals such as hairy footed gerbil, yellow mongoose and Cape dune mole rat, rock hyrax, steenbok and blackbacked jackal.

Marine mammals such as the southern right whales, African fur seals, bottlenose and common dolphins can often be spotted.

The price per person is R320 which includes conservation fees, light snacks, bottled water and non-alcoholic beverages and the duration is 2 ½ to 3 hours including light refreshment and information stops.

The recommended trail is the Witsand Trail which is 5.5km long and a maximum of 6 guests per nature hike with the age limit being 12 years and above. Alternatively guests may choose an easy one hour walk at a cost of R180.00

From 1 May – 30 September the guided hikes take place from 08:30 - 11:00 and 14:00 - 16:30.

From 1 October – 30 April - 08:00 - 10:30 and 16:00 - 18:30.
