The coveted Condè Nast UK Hot List has named Queen Victoria Hotel in Cape Town one of 2012's top hotels in the world.

Quite an honour considering the hotel opened doors but a year ago! Transforming the existing Georgian building into a chic, light filled luxury hotel was indeed a challenge, yet the vast experience and expertise of the Newmark Hotels management team shone through, and the world's most discerning travellers have noticed.

There are many aspects of the Queen Victoria Hotel that set it apart, from the painstaking design to achieve a 'classic versus contemporary elegance' to the intimate and delectable dining experience at

The 36-seater Dash Restaurant - all add to the allure of this urban retreat amid the hustle and bustle of Cape Town's popular V&A Waterfront.

The Queen Victoria Hotel is described by Condè Nast as, “royal and sumptuous with purple accents and monogrammed robes. Guest rooms are decorated in a soothing palette of silver, grey and taupe. Porcelain-tiled bathrooms have restored antique vanities and original artwork.”

Yet, the true distinction to which the success of this hotel, and the other five in the Newmark portfolio, can be attributed is that of its management team, Newmark Hotels.

With heritage that spans 30-years, Newmark Hotels was established in 1972 with the opening of one of Cape Town's signature properties; the Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay.

“The hospitality industry landscape has certainly evolved since 1972, yet through the recent economic hard times Newmark Hotels has been fortunate enough to weather the storm. I believe it has been the considered strategic decisions based on solid management fundamentals that have ensured we maintain our competitive edge,” reveals Managing Director of Newmark Hotels, Neil Markovitz.
