An international hotel chain will be coming to Umhlanga in three years, as part of the much anticipated multi-million rand Umhlanga Arch development.

This was revealed at the launch of Umhlanga Arch this week.

Prominently positioned on the slopes of Umhlanga’s Ridgeside, the R1.3 billion project is one of the largest mixed-use developments in the province and will undoubtedly bolster tourism, stimulate investment into the region, further elevate Umhlanga and greater Durban to a world-class standing. The 200-room hotel will be on the same property, is aimed at attracting business and international tourists.

While we know that it is an international hotel brand, developers have kept mum about which hotel chain it was. The director of Multiply Group, the company handling the project, Charles Thompson, teased that each room will have a sea view and that it will be the first true four star hotel in the Umhlanga precinct.

“The Umhlanga Arch in itself is fascinating -people can expect the likes of a concierge service that will handle their laundry and deliver their groceries, a high-tech conference centre to host meetings, a well-recognised gym, top-end retail stores and a leading car dealership.

“Beyond that the premium 4-star hotel is something we very excited about. It will be 4000 square meters of hotel space with coffee shops around.  At this stage we cannot reveal much about the international hotel chain, although it is one of a kind,” he said.
