London - Visitors to Bali over Christmas and the new year can expect tighter security after six senior police officers were threatened by the Islamic State.

Indonesia’s intelligence and counter-terror chiefs, communications minister, heads of police, military and religious groups met in Jakarta this week to discuss the threats.

Intelligence chief Sutiyoso played down the likelihood of attacks, arguing that it wasn’t the style of the terror group to warn about targets.

According to the Indonesia Police Watch the senior police officers were singled out by IS because they were considered most responsible for arresting members of radical groups.

Indonesia’s National Police spokesperson, Agus Rianto, said security for the Christmas and new year would be boosted.
