Durban - The Durban International Convention Centre has for the 15th time been honoured as Africa’s leading meetings and conference centre.

The honour, conferred on the ICC at the weekend, was yet another affirmation of the quality and consistency of its product and facilities.

The World Travel Awards conveyed the honour at a dazzling red-carpet event at the Diamonds La Gemma dell'Est on the northern tip of Zanzibar on Saturday.

Now in its 23rd year, the World Travel Awards is an awards programme across all sectors of the industry.

The aim is to celebrate organisations which push the boundaries of industry excellence.

In the 16-year history of the category, the Durban ICC has been voted top 15 times.

The World Travel Awards track hundreds of thousands of votes cast each year by travel professionals from more than 200 countries. This year, the Durban ICC was up against the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, the Cairo International Convention Centre, and the Sandton Convention Centre.

Durban ICC chief executive Lindiwe Rakharebe said she was thrilled that the venue had been honoured yet again.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all our clients, guests and stakeholders who made their voices heard and voted us the best facility of its kind in Africa.

“This accolade bears testament to the achievements of our team. This award reminds us that we constantly need to be stepping up and delivering world-class service to all our clients and guests,” she said.

During the awards, The Blue Train was named Africa’s leading luxury train, a title it has held for eight consecutive years.
