Durban - An independent survey commissioned by the Avios Travel Rewards Programme has revealed that 90 percent of holidaymakers are staying in South Africa this month.

Local is clearly lekker, especially considering the fact that Table Mountain and uMhlanga are in people’s top five holiday destinations.

Holidaymakers are conscious about avoiding overspending this festive season: 27 percent plan to spend less money compared to the previous December holidays, while 36 percent endeavour to spend the same amount of money. Interestingly, 65 percent of surveyed holidaymakers collect loyalty points and 86 percent look for discounts and cost-effective deals for the holidays.

While 56 percent of holidaymakers plan to stay with relatives or in self-catering accommodation, 13 percent will be staying in hotels. - The Mercury
