Cape Town - Being money savvy is the new cool.

South African superstar Cassper Nyovest is leading the way, showing everyone that saving a few bucks doesn’t necessarily have to mean cutting back on your lifestyle.

Renting out your home on Airbnb could have the biggest impact on your savings.

A report from Airbnb, the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company reveals how millions of people are potentially missing out on the opportunity to use their home to help pay for a vacation of their own.

Almost half (44 percent) of Americans leave their homes empty when they go on holiday according to research commissioned by Airbnb. Makes you consider your options, and how you too can make money from your house while away on vacation.

Just a few days away from home could earn you money as you relax on the beach or hike in the mountains, visit family or do business in a different city.

Recent Airbnb data shows that the typical South African Airbnb host who occasionally shares space in their home boosts their yearly income by more than R28 000.

“Your home is typically your most valuable asset but it could also be earning you money while you’re away on holiday,” says Velma Corcoran, Regional Market Consultant, Airbnb Southern Africa.

“Becoming a host and listing your property is a great way to earn money for a vacation or a quick getaway. Every booking on Airbnb is protected by our Airbnb Host Guarantee, which gives people added peace of mind, allowing them to enjoy their holiday wherever they choose to go. If Cassper is joining the sharing economy, what’s stopping you?”
