Johannesburg - The new Airbus A330-300s is to resume flights between Johannesburg and Madrid, starting next August.

“When we stopped flying to Johannesburg we said we would resume our flights on this route as soon as possible,” recalled Iberia’s Chairman and CEO Luis Gallego.

“Now we’ve come back to stay, with a new brand image and new more fuel-efficient aircraft, equipped with new cabins and much improved customer service.”

Iberia will fly from Johannesburg to Madrid three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and return on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. It will use A330 carreteo 02Iberia, with 36 seats in business and 242 in economy.

The flight schedule is not only good to fly to Madrid, but also to fly on to more than 100 destinations in Iberia’s network, including Barcelona, London, Lisbon, Porto, Havana, New York, Chicago, Miami, Milan, Rome, Berlin, Frankfurt, Geneva and Zurich. On board of these flights, Iberia will also carry freight, such as perishable goods, mainly fish from South Africa.

Business Latam_Gastronomía, the new Airbus A330-300s are twin-engined aircraft that burn 15 percent less fuel than those they replace.

They are equipped with Iberia’s new long-haul cabins. Business class features seats that become totally two-meters long flat beds, all with direct access to the aisle.

Business travellers can enjoy the lavish entertainment programme on 15.4” touch screens, as well as gourmet meals accompanied by a selection of the most exquisite regional Spanish wines. They can also check-in at dedicated counters, use the fast-track security controls, and VIP lounges.

Economy Class passengers fly comfortably in ergonomic seats, which are wider and more comfortable. The same entertainment programme as in Business Class is available to them on 9” touch screens. It includes 50 feature films in several languages, 80 television series and documentaries, 400 music options and video games. Wi-Fi and GSM connectivity are available to all Business and Economy Class passengers.

Flights can already be booked in travel agencies.This is Iberia’s 11th route linking Africa to Spain. The other destinations are Luanda, Algiers, Oran, Accra, Malabo, Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, Lagos and Dakar.

Madrid is famous for its vibrant cultural life, museums and sports events, as well as shopping, dining and sightseeing. Located in the centre of the country, it’s the perfect place to begin an exploration of Spain and the rest of Europe.

Since April 2014, the Iberia Group has resumed services to more than 20 destinations, including long-haul routes to Santo Domingo, Montevideo, Havana, California, Medellin, Puerto Rico and now Johannesburg.
