Nairobi – The South African government will relax visa rules for Kenyan travellers in a move aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.
This was revealed by South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba, who met officials from Kenya’s ministry of interior and co-ordination of national government led by Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery at Harambee House, Nairobi, last week.
Gigaba said the measures to ease visa rules will include visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports, issuing three-year multiple entry visa for frequent travellers, and a 10-year multiple entry visa for frequent business travellers and academics.”South Africa will also issue study visas for the duration of study and remove transit visas for travellers transiting through South African airports,” said Gigaba.
Service fees for visa applications would be cut from $71 (about R850) to $49.
Other issues discussed included updating each other on the respective initiatives being undertaken to fight trans-national crimes, such as terrorism, drug-trafficking, illegal arms, money-laundering, and illegal migration.
