Pretoria - Income from tourism accommodation industry rose 3 7 percent in February, compared to a year ago, as tourists stayed a bit less but paid more for their accommodation and embraced South Africa’s outdoors. This is according to figures released by Stats SA on Monday.

Income from tourist accommodation, which excludes income from bars and restaurants and other income, rose 2,8 percent year on year in February as it stood at R1.6 billion.

Caravan and campsites recorded the highest increase in February at 7.5 percent followed by hotels at 5.1 percent. guest houses and guest farms had subdued growth at 0.6 percent.

Income for the quarter ending in February rose by 1 percent compared to the same three-month period in 2014.
