Johannesburg -

SA Airways will resume one of its flights on Monday evening as “Hurricane Sandy” continues to move northward in the United States, the airline said.

The Johannesburg to Washington DC flight would depart as scheduled at 1am on Tuesday and arrive at 1.30pm on the same day, SAA said in a statement.

The airline said this decision came after discussions with US agencies.

“Based on the forecast, weather conditions are expected to have subsided at the time when the aircraft arrives in Washington DC,” the airline said.

SAA would also use a larger aircraft to help accommodate passengers whose flights had been cancelled as a result of the storm.

“SAA will monitor the situation and will resume other operations between South Africa and the US as soon as conditions are deemed safe for air travel.” - Sapa
