Maputo - Something magical that you can only experience at Azura Quilalea is taking place on September 1 this year.

An annular eclipse will pass straight over the beaches of Mozambique's remote Quirimbas Archipelago, with Azura Quilalea lying on the centre line of the shadow of the moon, being the perfect place to experience this once in a lifetime event in the Quirimbas. Next time this will happen over the Quirimbas will be in 84 years’ time, you don’t want to miss it this time around.

The moon will cover the sun and a ring of fire will be visible and Azura Quilalea will lie directly on the centre line of the shadow of the moon, making it the perfect place to experience this bucket-list event.

Astronomy expert Johan Strydom of Lethabo Adventures will be joining us at Azura Quilalea over this period to explain the actual event that is taking place.

There are many other activities to be observed like the conjunction of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the Moon from August 27 to September 3. And at the same time Mars and Saturn will be overhead in Scorpius. All 5 visible planets observable simultaneously!’

Azura Retreats is making it easier to experience this once in a lifetime occurrence, with a package that includes stargazing sessions by astronomy expert Johan, return flights from Johannesburg to Pemba with Airlink, scenic helicopter return transfers to the island, luxury accommodation in a beachfront villa, all meals, house drinks and activities.

Packages start from $4 664 per person sharing for 4 nights. (5-night packages from $5 264 and 7-night packages from $6 344.)

If you would like to combine experiencing a Partial Eclipse with an Azura bush experience you can opt for a stay at Azura Selous in Tanzania. A 90 percent Eclipse can be observed from the camp on September 1.
