Dar es Salaam - Set in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Africa, Azura Selous offers more than just your average safari.

Previously consisting of just 11 luxury tents, each with private plunge pools overlooking the Ruaha River rapids, Azura has just launched Villa Twiga.

It offers more privacy, a lot more opulence and additional outdoor areas, in comparison to the other tented villas, for guests to truly immerse themselves in the exquisiteness of the surrounding nature.

“Our other two properties, Azura Benguerra and Azura Quilalea, both offer a villa of this stature, so it was only fitting that we introduced one at Azura Selous, too,” says Stella Bettany, owner of Azura Retreats.

“All our accommodation is luxurious with no detail overlooked, but our villas are always just that little more stylish, spacious and private, for the discerning traveller who wants added comfort and space.”

‘Twiga’ means giraffe in Swahili, and as with all the other suites at Azura Selous, which feature a different animal theme and colour throughout their décor, Villa Twiga’s design is enhanced with bright yellows, patterns that mirror the giraffe’s exquisite coat and other quirky and stylish elements that link it all.

The architecture and interior of the villa are the result of collaboration between Bettany and GDF Designs – the personal touches are noticeable throughout.

With a wonderfully private location at the eastern end of the property, Villa Twiga offers the most incredible accommodation for honeymooners and couples who are looking for a little R&R in the bush, away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

It is more elevated, with views overlooking the rapids of the river; a spacious outdoor pavilion, sun loungers next to the pool, a daybed and an incredible outside bath complete the setup.

The villa also comes with its own chauffeured Land Rover, to transport guests to and from game drives or to the main lodge’s shared areas.

Add to the superb accommodation a range of activities – from guided walking safaris and 4x4 game drives to big game-fishing in the Ruaha River and an al fresco massage – guests’ itineraries are tailor-made upon arrival, ensuring they get to experience exactly what they set out to.

A team of young and enthusiastic staff welcomes all guests with warm smiles and each villa at Azura Selous has its own dedicated butler host, to take care of guests’ every need.

In line with its community focus, Azura employs many previously unskilled Mozambicans and Tanzanians, who are trained from the ground up.

The lodge also uses beautifully detailed baskets for laundry and decorative purposes, which are handmade in the tri-border region between Rwanda, Tanzania, and Burundi.

Azura Selous’ villas and communal areas are also decorated with scatter cushions made by mothers and grandmothers in a project through Africa Ignite.

Azura believes in sustainable, community-based tourism and it shows through its initiatives and the involvement of locals in every sphere of the business.
