China lays claim to world’s greenest tower

Shanghai - The greenest skyscraper in the world opens next month.

China’s Shanghai Tower – the world’s second tallest building at more than 2 000ft – will have records for highest hotel, restaurant and viewing platform, as well as fastest lifts.

Developers claim they have reduced the �1.84-billion buildings annual carbon footprint by 34 000 tons.

Developers of the 128-storey “ST” say it will be the greenest skyscraper ever and it has been given the highest rating for the international Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design award.

The top of the tower has 200 turbines which will generate 10 percent of the electricity it needs, and it will also collect rainwater and re-use waste water.

Developers claim they have reduced the £1.84-billion building’s annual carbon footprint by 34 000 tons.

The world’s tallest building is Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which stands at more than 2 720ft.
