The casino with star power

London - Not many people walk into a casino and leave £8-million richer.

But most of us aren’t Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese – who were all reportedly paid the eye-watering sum to help launch what has been dubbed “Asia’s Las Vegas”.

The £2-billion casino resort in Macau, China – funded by Mariah Carey’s billionaire boyfriend James Packer – boasts 1 600 rooms, lagoon swimming pools and even a 130-metre Ferris wheel suspended between its two towers.

Guests at the launch gathered to view a promotional short film, described as “the most expensive advertisement ever”.

Starring DiCaprio, 40, and De Niro, 72, it sees both actors arriving at the exclusive resort to audition for director Scorsese. The 15-minute film, called The Audition, reportedly cost £45-million.

It was a familiar theme to at least two of the A-listers, as Scorsese, 72, previously directed De Niro in 1995 film Casino.

The movie-inspired ‘Studio City’ resort comes complete with its own arena, where superstars including Madonna are set to perform.

Mr Packer, whose singer girlfriend Miss Carey and producer friend Brett Ratner joined him at the launch, opened the casino with his business partner Lawrence Ho.

Mr Ho was accompanied by his wife Sharon Lo, while De Niro’s wife Grace Hightower was also in attendance.
