London - He’s already a familiar sight on televisions across the British nation.

And now Stephen Fry will be the first face foreign visitors see when they arrive in Britain at Heathrow Airport.

Fry, 58, has made a “guide to the UK” video advising travellers on how best to handle the tricky matter of British etiquette.

In the clip, which is set in a gastropub, Fry tells visitors: “Let me be the first to welcome you to this happy island we call ‘home’.”

The comedian and broadcaster goes on to advise that “a staggering 91 percent of all verbal exchanges in the United Kingdom concern the weather” and recommends never disagreeing with someone who tells you that it’s “a bit nippy out”.

The short film – shown on Heathrow Express trains, as well as the airport’s free Wi-Fi page and YouTube – was made to give travellers a sense of the UK’s culture when they arrive.

He also tells tourists about the British love of queuing, but tells them to “display your displeasure” if kept waiting too long.

And he talks them through what he calls the “after you loop”, where two people wanting to go through a door are both too polite to go first. Speaking about the three-minute clip, Fry said: “I hope people enjoy watching the video, which celebrates some of our wonderful eccentricities and welcomes people to the UK with a good old dose of British humour.”
