Krausnick, Germany - With sandy beaches, azure water and palm trees, it looks like a sun-kissed resort.

Holidaymakers can be seen relaxing in swimming shorts and bikinis. Even the occasional flamingo can be spotted.

But not everything is as it seems at Tropical Islands.

The “resort” is actually built in a hangar on the site of a former Soviet military air base in Krausnick, Germany.

As this picture shows, the resort contains a beach, a lagoon, water slide and adventure park.

The “resort”, which opened in 2004, has a maximum capacity of 6 000 visitors a day and in its first year attracted 975 000 visitors. – Daily Mail
