Belfast - Tourism Ireland welcomes the launch of season six of Game of Thrones in South Africa.

For viewers wondering at the beauty of locations and where in the world they can be found, Tourism Ireland South Africa proudly reveals that all six seasons of the smash hit series have been based at the show’s production centre in Belfast, with filming taking place at Titanic Studios and across numerous other Northern Ireland locations.

Game of Thrones enthusiasts wishing to seek out these locations in Northern Ireland will be happy to learn that they can visit the actual Studios and take a Game of Thrones tour in the world-famous Causeway Coastal Route used in many scenes in the series.

From Belfast the tour travels along the gorgeous County Antrim coastline to the small holiday town of Ballycastle, the native home of Lady Catelyn Stark and Varys.

Stops include Cushendun, to visit the cave which featured Melisandre giving birth to the shadow baby and the wow location of The Kingsroad. Locally known as The Dark Hedges, this is one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland. This eerie tunnel was where Arya Stark dressed as a boy to make her escape from Kings Landing.

Ballintoy, which stood in for Pyke Harbour in the Iron Islands, is also in the itinerary, as is Downhill Strand which featured largely as Dragonstone during the burning of the Seven Idols of Westeros.

The tour also stops at the iconic Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge where the cliffs and surrounding water were used for a vast amount of filming.

A visit to the Giant’s Causeway is also included as it would be a missed opportunity to be on the Causeway Coastal Route and not visit this Unesco World Heritage Site.

An itinerary to self-guide your way through some of the key locations of the show is also available.
