The Leipzigmesse, or Leipzig Trade Fair, is a striking convention centre on the edge of the city and reflects the citys centuries-old role as a trading centre.
Leipzig has a number of rivers and canals and, with the recent reclaiming of the open cast coal mine pits, it now has beautiful lakes, too.
