Tel Aviv has won an American Airlines competition declaring it the world's number one gay travel destination, Israeli media reported.
The Mediterranean metropolis emerged far ahead with 43 percent of the vote, followed by New York City with 14 percent, Toronto with seven percent, Sao Paulo with six percent, Madrid and London with five percent each and New Orleans and Mexico City with four percent each.
The final results of the Best of Gay Cities 2011 contest were published overnight on the competition's website, Gaycities.com.
Online visitors had been asked to vote for their favourite gay destination. The site did not say how many votes were cast. - Sapa-dpa
