Dubai - A local company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to build a replica of India's famed Taj Mahal in Dubai, officials said.
Salim al-Musa, the chairman of the multi-purpose development Falconcity of Wonders, told dpa that the monument is to be called Taj Arabia and will be similar to the massive mausoleum in Agra but several times bigger.
The structure will also house apartments and shopping malls, including bridal shops, and will be surrounded by Moghul-style gardens, said al-Musa.
The company hopes to attract wedding business from the hundreds of thousands of Indians living in the UAE and neighbouring Gulf countries.
Bollywood stars have expressed interest in using the development as a film location, according to al-Musa, who said it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2014. - Sapa-dpa
