The sky may have been the limit for the Notorious BIG, but the universe seems to be the limit for Gugulethu teen rapper Cozmik.

The 17-year-old, whose real name is Abongiwe Peter, is busting out and dropping the mic 16 bars at time. His video for Pusha Man is featuring on TRACE Africa’s BTB (Bout To Blow) segment, making him the youngest Capetonian artist to appear on the music channel.

Cozmik was also featured on local radio station Good Hope FM when his single debuted last year. “I was so excited and proud when I saw my video on TV. It started showing on TRACE Africa on January 27 this year, but I only saw it a few days later,” he said.

“I actually missed the insert because I was busy recording when a friend sent me a message to tell me my music video was featured on TRACE Africa Bout To Blow.”

Pusha Man is about upcoming hungry rappers going through the grind to make it in the industry. The video was shot in Vasco, Goodwood, and directed by Fabian Vettiger.

Cozmik, who comes from a family of five, fell in love with music at a young age. “I wrote my first rap song when I was in Grade 3, a teacher asked us to do an oral presentation and since then, I fell in love with

hip hop.”

The Edgemead High School matric pupil describes himself as passionate, outspoken and a person who loves to be surrounded by positive energy.

“In two to three years, I would like to be the biggest rap artist in Africa and to be on the likes of AKA’s scale. I believe it’s possible, seeing how far I have come. I’m still trying to find ‘that thing’ that will make me more unique from others.”

Cozmik plans to drop a mix-tape later this year before embarking on a media studies career after school.
