Johannesburg - Listed construction and engineering group Aveng has appointed Scott Cummins as the new chief executive of McConnell Dowell, its Australian based wholly-owned major engineering, construction and maintenance contractor.

The appointment is effective from October this year. Cummins, who since January has been senior vice-president of commercial at McDermott International, is to replace current chief executive David Robinson, who will be retiring in October.

Kobus Verster, the chief executive of Aveng, said on Friday that Scott’s appointment followed a comprehensive executive search that considered both internal and external candidates.

“I am confident that Scott will lead McConnell Dowell in sustaining its track record in its anchor market, Australia, while helping us realise the full potential of its international operations,” he said.

Verster added that Scott had vast experience in the construction and engineering industry across various disciplines and geographies and had worked in project and functional management and leadership roles in the marine, production, construction engineering, fabrication, business development and regional operations for McDermott International over the last 25 years.
