New York - BMW has recalled 50,200 motorcycles in the United States because of potential fuel leaks and fires, with a spokesman at the carmaker's headquarters in Munich saying Monday that no models sold in Germany have been affected.

The fuel pump flanges on several models built from 2005 to 2011 might develop cracks and cause fuel to leak, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned.

BMW will either reinforce the fuel pump flange or replace the pump, the US safety agency said.

The motorcycles recalled are R models, K models, S 1000 models and HP2 vehicles. - Sapa-dpa
