Johannesburg - Leading Botswana supermarket chain Choppies Enterprises said on Friday it expected earnings for the year to end-June to be “significantly better” than in the previous year.

However, it also advised shareholders to exercise caution when trading in its stock.

The company, listed on the Botswana and Johannesburg stock exchanges, will release results for the year on or around September 30.

Choppies is expanding rapidly and plans to open 31 new stores in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe by the end of this year.

The company already has 125 retail outlets in the three countries.

The group plans to operate more than 200 stores across six countries by December 2016.
