Johannesburg - Cosatu has opened a criminal case against corrupt construction companies operating in South Africa, the organisation said on Thursday.
“They have confessed that they are guilty of corruption and asked to be fined,” Congress of SA Trade Unions Gauteng secretary Dumisani Dakile told members outside the Johannesburg Central police station.
This was the final leg of Cosatu's day-long march against e-tolling and labour brokers.
Dakile handed the statement to station commander Brigadier Ronnie Rajim, who confirmed that a docket had been opened.
“Dumisani Dakile, on behalf of Cosatu, has opened a corruption case against several departments,” Rajin said.
Dakile said Cosatu would ask the Auditor General to look into where the funds from the fuel levy and vehicle licences went too.
The Hawks' Gauteng head Shadrack Sibiya said he would take the document to the relevant authorities and respond to the trade union federation within three days, as Cosatu had requested. - Sapa
