Johannesburg - South African junior miner DRDGold said on Tuesday that 600 of its employees went on strike after the company refused to give in to their union's wage demands.

DRDGold said it was offering raises of between 7.5 and 8 percent wage for the next two years, which would increase its wage bill by 8.1 percent, or 19 million rand ($1.9 million) for each of the two years.

The National Union of Mineworkers' pay demands would amount to an extra 43 million annually, the miner said in a filing to the stock exchange. - Reuters
