Johannesburg - A last minute effort to halt the Rea Vaya bus drivers' strike has failed, the City of Johannesburg said on Monday.
“The City of Johannesburg regrets to inform passengers that last minute attempts by Piotrans to avert a bus strike have failed, spokesman Benny Makgoga said.
“The City apologies to passengers for the inconvenience.”
He said Piotrans, which manages the operation of Rea Vaya buses, is continuing to try to resolve the strike.
Gauteng community safety department spokesman Obed Sibasa said on Sunday bus drivers would work from 5am until 8am on Monday, then go on strike “until further notice”
“Passengers are advised to look for alternative transport in the afternoon and after work until further notice.”
Sibasa urged commuters to arrive early at taxi ranks and bus stops. - Sapa
