Johannesburg - Massmart stores will close on Sunday because of the funeral of former president Nelson Mandela, it said on Monday.
The affected shops were: Builders Warehouse, Builders Express, Builders Trade Depot, Builders Superstore, CBW, Cambridge Food, DionWired, Game Stores, Jumbo Cash and Carry, Makro, and Rhino Cash and Carry.
“This decision, which we have taken in consultation with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, will enable our staff to spend time with their families on the day of Madiba's funeral and honour a great statesman in ensuring that his legacy continues,” said Massmart spokeswoman Annaleigh Vallie.
Mandela, 95, died at his home in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Thursday.
He is to be buried in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape, where he grew up. - Sapa
