agricultural group Tongaat Hulett yesterday announced the appointment of Mozambique’s Dr Tomaz Augusto Salomão as an independent non-executive board director with effect from this week. Salomão is the former executive secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and presided over the early stages of the SADC Free Trade Area, launched by the SADC summit in August 2008. Prior to this, he was Mozambican Minister of Transport and Minister of Finance and Planning. He is also a non-executive chairman of the board of Standard Bank, Mozambique. Tongaat Hulett, with a footprint in six SADC countries, said earlier this week it would continue to focus on expanding local markets as it reported operating profit of R2.1 billion, 12 percent lower than the R2.4bn recorded last time. – ANA
