Johannesburg - State owned logistics enterprise Transnet on Monday announced the appointment of Richard Vallihu as Chief Executive of Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) while Thamsanqa Jiyane replaces him as CE for Transnet Engineering.

This announcement follows the retirement of TNPA CE Tau Morwe.

The appointments are effective on April 1, the group said in a statement.

Vallihu has been with Transnet since 1995 and has been CE at Transnet Engineering since 2005.

He is credited with reshaping the division into “a formidable engineering and manufacturing enterprise with customers across the world”.

TNPA is the landlord for Transnet’s seven commercial ports and sixteen container terminals across South Africa.

Jiyane has worked in procurement across three of Transnet’s seven operating divisions. He was central to Transnet’s groundbreaking procurement of new generation locomotives as part of its fleet renewal programme.

Jiyane is a qualified teacher and holds a bachelor of business administration and a Masters in Business Leadership

“These appointments affirm the depth and success of our talent managment programmes,” Group CE Brian Molefe said in the statement. .
