San Francisco - Yahoo Senior Vice-President Mike Kerns is planning to leave the company as the web portal shakes up its management to focus more attention on emerging businesses.
Kerns, who will remain to assist in the transition, will be replaced by Simon Khalaf, the former chief executive officer of Flurry, a mobile-data and advertising company acquired last year, Yahoo said in an emailed statement.
Khalaf’s responsibilities will include the homepage, news, finance and sports.
“As we continue to look at ways to accelerate our growth, aligning our product teams to enable tighter collaboration is critical to drive innovation and deliver consistent and enjoyable user experiences across all Yahoo products,” the company said. “In order to achieve that alignment, we made a number of organisational shifts to emphasise our focus on the growth businesses of mobile, social, native and video.”
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, who joined the Sunnyvale, California-based company from Google in 2012, is investing in mobile services as more consumers access the web, videos and other content from smartphones and tablets. Mayer is under pressure to show more progress in her turnaround effort.
For the fourth quarter, Yahoo reported sales, excluding revenue shared with partner websites, fell 1.8 percent to $1.18 billion.
