KENYAN hotel occupancy rates have plunged to as low as 12 percent after foreign governments issued advisories against travelling to the coastal region and Nairobi on security concerns. At least 20 hotels had temporarily closed, leaving an average of 100 workers per site unemployed, Albert Njeru, the secretary-general of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers, said yesterday. “We are only asking governments to lift the travel advisories,” Njeru said. – Bloomberg
