Shaikh to helm Standard Chartered Saadiq

Cape Town - Standard Chartered on Wednesday announced the appointment of Rehan Shaikh as chief executive of its global Islamic banking business - Standard Chartered Saadiq.

A statement from the bank said Shaikh, who has more than 30 years of banking and management experience including at Dubai Islamic Bank and an earlier stint at Standard Chartered Pakistan, would drive the growth of Standard Chartered’s Islamic banking business across its core markets.

Sunil Kaushal, Standard Chartered’s chief executive for Africa and the Middle East, said: “Islamic finance is an integral part of the business at Standard Chartered and we continue to see growing demand from clients in many of our markets. Rehan’s in-depth knowledge of our footprint markets and corporate banking experience will be invaluable in building our Islamic banking proposition as the bank positions for future growth.”

Shaikh, who said he was excited to be rejoining the bank, added: “Standard Chartered is well-positioned to participate in the continued growth of the industry as demographics across our footprint indicate the greater demand for sharia-compliant products and services.”
