Seoul - South Korea's jobless rate stood at 3.0 percent in October, unchanged from the previous month even as government data showed an increase in job creation from a year ago.

But unemployment among young people aged 15-29 rose marginally to 7.8 percent from 7.7 percent in September, Statistics Korea said.

The total number of employed people stood at 25.54 million in October, up 476,000 from a year earlier, and higher than the previous month's on-year gain of 463,000.

“Full-time employees continue to increase, while part-timers and daily contracted workers are declining at a slower pace. This helped push the number of jobs created to over 400,000 for the third straight month in October,” the state agency said.

The health and social welfare service sector led the way, adding 194,000 new jobs in October compared with a year earlier. - Sapa-AFP
