New York - US stocks Friday opened higher after three straight losing session after the US House of Representatives approved a two-year budget deal that would avert another government shutdown.

Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 19.72 (0.13 percent) to 15,759.15.

The broad-based S&P 500 added 4.14 (0.23 percent) at 1,779.64, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index put on 16.61 (0.42

percent) at 4,015.02.

The House early Thursday evening easily approved a bipartisan budget deal that would repeal some automatic spending cuts while trimming the budget deficit.

However the deal, which still must win Senate approval, does not address the debt ceiling, which will reach its limit in February. - Sapa-AFP
