Yellow maize falls most in one week

Johannesburg - South African yellow corn declined the most in a week during trading in Johannesburg.

The white variety also dropped.

Yellow corn for delivery in July fell 1 percent to 1,962 rand a metric ton, the biggest drop since May 30 by the midday close on the South African Futures Exchange.

The white type declined 0.4 percent to 1,846 rand a ton.

South Africa is the continent’s biggest producer of corn.

Meal from white corn is cooked to make one of the country’s staple foods, known as pap, and the yellow variety is mainly used as animal feed.

Wheat for delivery in July fell 0.8 percent to 3,845 rand a ton. - Bloomberg News
